ACTION FOR EXCELLENT EDUCATION
My desire to serve as YOUR representative for the Midlothian District on the Chesterfield County School Board stems from my decades of involvement, advocacy, and unwavering belief in excellent education for all children.
I was born in Roxbury, MA and raised in Bon Air, VA where I attended Midlothian Elementary, Carver High and graduated from Midlothian High School.
I received my Bachelor of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University. I received my Master’s degree from the School of Theology from Virginia Union University. I have been provisionally admitted into the Doctorate of Management Program at the University of Maryland – University College.
I had a decade long career at IBM, one of the Fortune 50 Companies in the world, where I rose to ranks of management. I worked in the nonprofit sector for Chesterfield Court Appointed Special Advocates, United Way of Richmond and Voices for Virginia’s Children. I am currently working for the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Senior Refugee Program Consultant in the Virginia Office of Newcomer Services, Virginia Department of Social Services.
I have served on a number of county committees including the Chesterfield Committee on the Future as the Vice Chair, Communities in Schools and I served as the Co-chair for 1996 Bond Referendum Chesterfield Citizen Advisory. I began my PTA career as a board member at Bon Air Elementary and went from there to Robious Middle and James River High. I held PTA offices at the county council level and I was elected to state board of the Virginia PTA. I facilitated the development of a statewide collaboration that I helped organize in order to create the first Children’s Legislative Agenda for Virginia. This collaboration was made up of over 30 local and state non-profit organizations from all over the Commonwealth and functioned successfully for over one year and met its objective.
I believe that we must continue to see children as whole, resilient, curious and healthy human beings. Therefore, we must continue to have educational environments that promote academic rigor, creative and critical thinking and nurture our children as they discover who they are and what they will contribute to their communities. As a vibrant and growing district, we will have many celebrations and we will have challenges in meeting our educational goals. I need YOUR support!! Come out on March 18th and vote for me to represent you so that WE can do the exciting and hard work necessary to stay EXCELLENT IN EDUCATION.
